I travel to eat.
Food is important. Food is experience. Food is ubiquitous.

We’d done camping before Hawaii but with rented or borrowed equipment. For this trip we decided to invest in our own tent and other necessary stuff. My guess is that it all paid off in just this one trip.
Our last adventure on the Big Island was visiting Green sand (Papakolea) beach on the southern shore. The first time I heard about it, I assumed that “green” was a reference to something hypothetical, a legend of sorts. But nope, it was a literal reference to the sand color in that area.
The volcanoes park is huge and there are many relatively short and easy hikes to explore it. But those were not exciting enough for us. Where is fun in short ans easy?
I have to acknowledge that I didn’t study well for this trip as I still don’t know the names of the most famous volcanoes in the park. To my defense, their names are kind of super complicated… Lots of vowels with very few consonants.
Well, some of them are actually still quite hot.
The whole idea of coming to Hawaii was to go backpacking and camping on the beach.
Ok… As usual, let’s start with food 🙂
After all the time wasted in the airport, we finally made it to Kona on Big Island. It was late, we were tired and cranky, so there was no initially anticipated excitement or fascination with anything. Not with the airport terminal without a roof, not with the nature hidden by night, not with our hotel tucked away from the road behind palm trees.
The second day in paradise started so well.
